As regular readers will know, developing new talent has long been a Denca priority since we welcomed our first apprentices in 1998. Our apprenticeship programme provides young people with the opportunity to learn directly from experienced colleagues while gaining hands-on experience across the different areas of our business.
Apprentices begin on the workshop floor before progressing through each department for a few months. including panel manufacture, design engineering, technical services and installation. This approach gives them a broad understanding of our operations and allows us to identify where their skills and interests can take them in the future.
Whether it’s design, technical or electrical, we pride ourselves on recognising the best placement for each individual. By combining practical experience with structured learning, we aim to give every apprentice a strong foundation on which to build their career. Having access to the right tools from the outset is another important part of that process.
The best tools for the job
For the third consecutive year, City Electrical Factors have supported Denca Controls’ apprenticeship programme by providing starter toolkits to help our newest recruits take their first steps towards a career in industrial automation.
Starting a new career is an important milestone, and having the right equipment from day one can make all the difference. Thanks to the continued generosity of our local CEF branch, each new apprentice joining Denca receives a professional toolkit to support their practical training and development.
The toolkits contain a range of essential equipment, including screwdrivers, pliers, tape measures, spirit levels and other everyday tools. These resources give our apprentices a practical starting point as they begin developing the technical skills and experience needed to build successful careers in engineering.

CEF’s continued involvement for a third year reflects the value of local businesses working together to support skill development and create opportunities for young people entering the industry. Providing these toolkits is a practical gesture, but one that makes a meaningful contribution to our apprentices.
Thanks to Ian Kay and Barry Ainscow for their continued support and commitment to our apprentices. We appreciate their ongoing partnership and look forward to continuing our work together to help develop the engineering talent of the future. For those considering an apprenticeship.
